Within Passenger Transportation Services
TfL's Hopper rule allows multiple eligible bus and tram journeys within its stated time window using the same card or device. A journey count therefore need not equal a count of separately charged fares. This is a London fare example, not a category sales benchmark.
TfL publishes daily and weekly bus-and-tram caps as well as individual pay-as-you-go fares. A capped customer's total need not equal an uncapped ride-by-ride calculation. Use the applicable fare product and paid amount when evaluating revenue from increased travel.
TfL sells bus-and-tram passes for stated periods alongside pay-as-you-go travel. Distinguish the purchased pass from the journeys it supports when assessing a pass promotion. Subsequent use alone does not establish another payment or another newly acquired customer.
TfL explains that missed touch-in or touch-out, or use of different cards, can create maximum fares with potential refunds. Review corrected fare records before treating an anomalously high charge as higher customer value. The touch rules also differ for buses and trams.

Research scope
Benchmark status reviewed 11 October 2026.
The exact category cohort does not support a publishable AOV aggregate.
Median and middle 50% of account-level average order values. Each account value is purchase ROAS multiplied by cost per purchase in USD. Successful classifications, including manual corrections, with positive finite spend, purchases, ROAS and cost per purchase. Accounts are counted once with equal weight. Quartiles use linear interpolation. Root cohorts include direct root classifications and their child categories; exact-child cohorts exclude parent and sibling categories. The source selects the highest-spend coverage row per account among snapshots dated within the preceding 30 days; the underlying reporting period is not supplied. This is a dated aggregate advertising-data snapshot, not business-wide AOV or a census. Parent and sibling benchmarks are never substituted.
