What the AEO checker checks

The AEO Checker reads your page the way an AI crawler first sees it, as raw HTML, then scores the twelve things that make a page easy for answer engines to quote. Every check has a fixed weight, published here, so you can always see why a page scored the way it did.

Check Points What it looks for
Answer-first openings13Sections that open with a one-sentence direct answer
Question-style headings10H2 and H3 headings phrased the way people ask
FAQ blocks10Short questions and answers on the page, with FAQ markup
Structured data10Schema markup that tells engines what the page is
Lists and tables10Steps, comparisons and key facts in lists or tables
Heading hierarchy9One H1 and a clean H2 and H3 outline
Concise writing8Short sentences and paragraphs that are easy to quote
Concrete data8Numbers, dates and specifics instead of vague claims
Title and meta description7A clear title and a description that sums up the page
Authorship and dates7A named author and publish or update dates, on the page and in markup
Open Graph tags5og:title, og:description, og:image and og:type
Entity signals3Organization markup with sameAs links to your official profiles

Together that is an AEO audit of one page: what an answer engine finds when it reads it, and how much of it is ready to quote.

How to check a page for AI search

  1. Enter the URL of any public page, yours or a competitor's.
  2. Read the score and the fixes. Fixes are ranked by points, so the first one is worth the most.
  3. Check Site access to see which AI crawlers your robots.txt lets in, whether you have an llms.txt file, and how fast your server answered.

Most AEO checking tools ask for your brand name and then question AI engines about it. This one checks the page itself, so every fix points at something you can change today. When you compare tools to find the best AEO checker for your team, look for three things: published weights, a crawler check that separates search from training, and a way to test drafts. This one has all three.

How the AEO score works

Your AEO score, also called a GEO score, follows the same rules for every page, so the same page gets the same score each time. Points add up to 100. When a check cannot apply, such as Open Graph tags in pasted plain text, it is set aside and the other checks are scaled to 100.

ScoreGrade
80 to 100AI-ready
60 to 79Solid
40 to 59Needs work
0 to 39Not ready yet

What the score does not see. The checker reads the page's raw HTML. It does not ask AI engines live, measure backlinks or brand authority, or see content that appears only after JavaScript runs. Many AI crawlers do not run JavaScript, so when a page has very little text in its HTML, the report warns you. For speed and conversion checks, use the Landing Page Analyzer.

Which AI crawlers can reach your page

Your robots.txt decides which crawlers may read your site, and AI companies use different crawlers for different jobs. The checker reads your robots.txt and sorts 14 of them into three groups:

  • Search and citation: OAI-SearchBot (ChatGPT search), Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and meta-webindexer, which Meta uses to improve Meta AI search results and cite sources. Blocking these can keep your page out of AI answers.
  • Fetched on a user's request: ChatGPT-User, Claude-User, Perplexity-User and meta-externalfetcher fetch a page when someone asks the AI about it. Some of them do not follow robots.txt, and the report shows which.
  • Training: GPTBot, ClaudeBot, meta-externalagent and CCBot, plus Google-Extended and Applebot-Extended, control whether your content can be used to train AI models. Blocking them does not remove your pages from AI search answers.

That split matters: you can opt out of training and still be cited, by blocking the training group and allowing the search group. The checker also looks for llms.txt, a proposed file that tells AI tools what your site covers and where its key pages are, and measures how fast your server answered and how large the HTML is.

Check a draft before you publish

Paste a draft as HTML or plain text and get the content score before the page goes live. No URL is needed, and the draft is scored in your browser, so it is not sent to our servers. Checks that need HTML, like Open Graph tags, are set aside for plain text, and crawler access needs a live URL. Fix the draft, paste it again, and publish when the score is where you want it.

AEO, GEO and SEO: what is the difference?

Answer engine optimization (AEO), also called generative engine optimization (GEO), means making pages easy for AI systems to find, understand and quote. SEO earns a place in a list of links; AEO earns a place inside the answer. The two overlap, because clear structure, real data and pages crawlers can reach help both. Think of this tool as an LLM SEO checker for one page at a time, and run a quick GEO audit on your most important pages first.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AEO checker?

An AEO checker, or AEO checking tool, reviews a page against what makes it easy for AI answer engines to find, understand and quote: direct answers, clear structure, markup and crawler access. This one scores a single page from 0 to 100 and ranks the fixes by points.

Is the AEO Checker free?

Yes. It is free with no signup and no email. If you run many checks within one minute, it asks you to wait a moment before the next one.

Does it ask ChatGPT or other AI engines about my page?

No. It checks the page itself, the way a crawler reads it, so results are instant and the same every time. It does not show whether an engine has already cited you.

What is the difference between search crawlers and training crawlers?

Search crawlers, like OAI-SearchBot and meta-webindexer, let AI products find and cite your page in answers. Training crawlers, like GPTBot and meta-externalagent, collect content to train AI models. You can block one group and allow the other.

Should I allow all AI crawlers?

If you want to be cited in AI answers, allow the search and citation group. Whether to allow training is a business choice, and blocking it does not remove you from AI search answers.

What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a proposed plain-text file at the root of a site that tells AI tools what the site covers and links to its key pages. It is still new, so the checker shows whether you have one but does not score it.

Why does my page get a JavaScript warning?

Your page has very little text in its raw HTML, which usually means it builds its content with JavaScript. Many AI crawlers do not run JavaScript, so they may see an almost empty page. Rendering the main content on the server fixes it.

Can I check a page before it is published?

Yes. Choose Check a draft and paste the HTML or plain text. It is scored in your browser and is not sent to our servers.

You scrolled so far. You want this. Trust us.
