What AdEspresso's split testing, rules and PDF reports do today, what they don't, what the plans cost, and which alternatives fit Meta advertisers better.
Hootsuite bought AdEspresso in 2017, and it sells a manual ad builder for Facebook and Instagram on flat monthly plans, with split testing, rules and PDF reports as its site describes them. This review covers what AdEspresso does today, what we couldn't find in it, what it costs, what G2 users say, and which alternatives fit Meta advertisers better.
TL;DR: AdEspresso is a Facebook and Instagram ad builder whose site describes split testing, rules and white-label PDF reports. Plans start at $49 a month, capped at $1,000 of monthly ad spend, and unlimited spend starts at $99. We found no AI features, chat assistant, audience builder, account audit or help with ad comments, and we found no product updates since early 2024. Its newest public reviews are from 2023, and its help centre didn't load for us, so its rules and split testing are what its site describes. If most of your budget goes to Meta, Madgicx gives you AI that recommends and builds in every plan, from $45 a month.
What is AdEspresso?
AdEspresso is an ad management tool for Facebook and Instagram advertisers, now part of Hootsuite, which announced the acquisition in February 2017. AdEspresso's homepage promises to make digital advertising easy, fast and effective.
Its site organises the product into five parts:
- Create, a campaign builder with a spreadsheet tool called Grid Composer that makes many ad variations.
- Manage, an optimiser and rules that pause costly ads and move budget.
- Analyse, a dashboard and drag-and-drop PDF reports.
- Collaborate, with campaign approval and optional view-only access for team members and clients, listed on AdEspresso's pricing page.
- Learn, with written guides and, on Enterprise, at least an hour of live training a month.
The newest dates we found on its pages are from early 2024, and the newest public reviews, on G2 and in AdEspresso's Capterra listing, are from 2023.
Who is AdEspresso for?
AdEspresso is built for advertisers and small teams or agencies running Facebook and Instagram ads. Its plan terms point to agency use: unlimited ad accounts on every plan, up to 15 seats on Plus, white-label reports and view-only access for clients. G2 company-size labels were mostly small business and mid-market.
It's a weaker fit for teams that want the software to do the work: we found no AI features, so every campaign, test and rule starts with you.
What AdEspresso can and can't do
Creative
Does: builds many ad variations from a spreadsheet with Grid Composer, and its site describes split tests of creative elements such as headlines and images.
Doesn't: we found no AI image generation or AI copywriting on its pricing page, tour pages or homepage, and 1 of 16 recent G2 reviews says it lacks AI features.
Launching campaigns
Does: campaigns are created by hand. Plus and Enterprise add bulk creation across several pages, Plus has campaign approval, and Enterprise makes approval mandatory and lists API access.
Doesn't: we found no chat or AI-led campaign creation.
Automation rules
Does: its site describes an optimiser that reviews the ads in a campaign, pauses the costliest and moves budget to the best, and rules on cost per acquisition, cost per thousand impressions, conversions and return on investment that raise or lower budgets, pause ads or start another campaign within a timeframe you set. Triggers for your own conditions are in every plan, and cross-campaign triggers are on Plus.
Doesn't: we found no library of ready-made rules and no rules built from a chat. Its help centre article on custom rules didn't load for us, so the pages we read don't say whether rules wait for approval or how often they run.
Analysis and reports
Does: a dashboard with a customisable graph and a drill-down per ad, tags that group campaigns for combined spend and results, and PDF reports covering click-through rate, cost per click, cost per acquisition, conversion rate and return on investment per ad. Plus adds white-label reports with your logo and colours.
Doesn't: we found no report that combines other ad tools, and no analysis of which lines of ad copy win across live ads. Its pricing page lists split-test analysis, but how winners are chosen isn't described.
Audiences
Does: targeting by age range and interests, Dynamic Ads that retarget site visitors, and audience segments you can split test. Two of 16 recent G2 reviews praise its targeting.
Doesn't: we found no ready-made, AI or lookalike audience builder.
AI chat, ad comments and account audit
Doesn't: we found no AI assistant or chat, no help with ad comments and no account audit. The dashboard offers tips on campaign performance, which its page doesn't describe as AI.
Who decides what changes in your account?
- The optimiser and rules improve ads while you sleep, according to its site, pausing costly ads and shifting budget. It doesn't say whether you approve each action first.
- Campaign approval on Plus and Enterprise holds campaigns for approval, and Enterprise makes it mandatory. The pricing page doesn't describe who approves.
- Dashboard tips suggest only, and we found no approve or dismiss step.
- Automatic page post promotion boosts organic posts on parameters you set, without asking each time.
How much does AdEspresso cost?
| Plan | Price | What's included |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $49 | Up to $1,000 of monthly ad spend, unlimited ad accounts, the optimiser, a reporting tool and split-test analysis |
| Plus | $99 | Unlimited ad spend, up to 15 seats, cross-campaign triggers, bulk creation, campaign approval and white-label reports |
| Enterprise | From $259 | Unlimited ad spend and seats, a dedicated Facebook marketing consultant, live training, mandatory campaign approval, API access and Salesforce contacts sync |
The pricing page lists flat monthly prices, a 14-day free trial on all three plans and no free plan. Annual prices aren't shown.
What it costs in practice: the price steps up by plan, not by spend. Starter stops at $1,000 of monthly ad spend, and you need Plus at $99 to go beyond it, along with bulk creation, campaign approval and white-label reports. With Madgicx, only your Meta spend sets the price, from $45 a month.
Is AdEspresso worth it?
For a small team or agency that wants to build Facebook and Instagram ads by hand and send white-label PDF reports, it can be, if its split testing and rules work as its site describes. We found no AI features, so if you want the software to recommend and build, you'll need another tool.

AdEspresso alternatives
1. Madgicx Best overall
Madgicx lists the next steps for your Meta account and builds campaigns, ad sets and ads from a chat, each on your approval.
Compared with AdEspresso: Madgicx puts its AI in every plan from $45 a month, priced by Meta spend only, and adds what we found missing in AdEspresso: recommendations on your account, campaigns built from a chat, image ad generation from a prompt or from ads that work, analysis of which creatives and copy bring results, ready-made audiences, help with ad comments and a full audit of your Meta account. Rules are ready-made and custom, and its reports combine Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, Klaviyo and GA4.
2. Bïrch
An ad automation tool built around rules you write, with an AI layer on top.
Compared with AdEspresso: a deeper rule builder with checks as often as every 15 minutes, plus bulk launching and an AI chat that edits existing ads, from $49 a month. You still write and maintain the rules, and its chat can't create campaigns.
3. AdStellar
An AI media buyer for Meta ads that builds campaigns and makes image and video ads.
Compared with AdEspresso: it adds AI campaign building, an agent that acts after you confirm, and video as well as image ads, priced by credits from $100 a month.

How to test AdEspresso before you commit
- Start the 14-day free trial that its pricing page lists for every plan.
- Ask how split-test winners are chosen, since the pages we read don't say.
- Check whether rules wait for your approval or act on their own.
- Work out which plan you need: bulk creation, campaign approval and white-label reports are on Plus, and Starter stops at $1,000 of monthly ad spend.
- Confirm the features you need are current, since we found no product updates since early 2024.
Our verdict
AdEspresso is a manual ad builder with white-label PDF reports, and its site describes split testing and rules. It suits agencies that want to build every ad themselves. If most of your budget goes to Meta and you want AI to do part of the work, Madgicx does more: recommendations you approve, campaigns built from a chat, AI image ads, audiences and reports that combine Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, Klaviyo and GA4, in one plan from $45 a month.
How we reviewed AdEspresso
We went through AdEspresso's pricing page, its Create, Manage and Analyse tour pages and its homepage, its Capterra listing and its 16 most recent reviews on G2. Its help centre didn't load for us, so its rules and split testing are what its site describes. We judged it on four things:
- What it does for a Meta advertiser, capability by capability.
- Who makes changes to your ads, and when you're asked first.
- Total cost as your ad spend grows, including what each plan leaves out.
- What users say.
