The State Bar of California says a contingency fee depends on winning or settling, but court and other costs may still be payable whether the client wins or loses. Suggested offer practice: distinguish attorney compensation from case costs and identify the written agreement's allocation.
California's State Bar says the agreement should specify whether the contingency percentage is calculated before or after court fees and other costs. It also says most attorney fees are negotiable rather than fixed by statute. A standalone percentage would omit material agreement conditions.
The State Bar tells clients to discuss which services a fee covers and obtain that agreement in writing. Its billing guidance separates services, attorney fees and other charges. Suggested measurement: distinguish an inquiry or consultation from a written engagement whose scope has been agreed.
The State Bar recommends discussing expected case duration while recognizing unforeseen complications can delay it. Suggested offer practice: describe a lawyer's estimate as an estimate and keep inquiry, engagement and resolution stages separate; this guidance does not establish a client's outcome or completion date.

Median and middle 50% of account-level average order values. Each account value is purchase ROAS multiplied by cost per purchase in USD. Successful classifications, including manual corrections, with positive finite spend, purchases, ROAS and cost per purchase. Accounts are counted once with equal weight. Quartiles use linear interpolation. Root cohorts include direct root classifications and their child categories; exact-child cohorts exclude parent and sibling categories. The source selects the highest-spend coverage row per account among snapshots dated within the preceding 30 days; the underlying reporting period is not supplied. This is a dated aggregate advertising-data snapshot, not business-wide AOV or a census. Parent and sibling benchmarks are never substituted.
