How do you find your Facebook pixel ID?

The quickest way to find your Facebook pixel ID is Events Manager: open Data sources, pick your pixel and read the ID shown under its name. You can also read it from Meta's Pixel Helper on your site, from your page source, or from the Meta settings of your store platform.

TL;DR

  • Events Manager shows the ID under the pixel's name and in its settings.
  • The Pixel Helper shows the ID of any pixel firing on a page.
  • Your page source contains it in the pixel code, next to the word "init".
  • Store platforms list it where you connected Meta.
  • If you see two IDs, find out which is live before you change anything.

Four places to look

Where Best when Time
Events Manager You have access to the ad account Under a minute
Pixel Helper The pixel is already on your site About a minute
Page source You have no ad account access A few minutes
Platform settings Your store connected Meta for you Under a minute

Way 1: Events Manager

  1. Open Meta Events Manager from your Business Suite or Ads Manager menu.
  2. Choose Data sources in the left column.
  3. Click the pixel you want. Its name sits at the top, and the ID is shown under it.
  4. For the same pixel, the Settings tab shows the ID again, with the install options.

How to check: the pixel's status shows recent activity. If it shows none, you may be reading an old pixel.

Way 2: The Pixel Helper

If the pixel is on your site, Meta's Chrome extension lists it. Open your site, click the extension icon and read the pixel ID in the panel. Our answer on the Facebook Pixel Helper shows how to use it.

How to check: the ID matches the one in Events Manager. If it does not, your site runs a different pixel from the one you thought.

Way 3: Your page source

Right click the page, choose View page source and search for fbq('init'. The number in the brackets after it is the ID. This works even if you have no ad account access.

How to check: the ID matches the one the Pixel Helper shows. A tag manager may load the code later, so search the loaded page, not only the raw file.

Way 4: Your platform

Stores and site builders that connect to Meta usually show the pixel or dataset ID where you linked it, often in a marketing or sales channel settings page. Open that area and look for the pixel or dataset field. Our answer on adding the Meta Pixel to Shopify shows the Shopify path.

How to check: the ID matches Events Manager.

What if I see two pixel IDs?

Two IDs mean two pixels. That happens when an old pixel stays in a theme after you added a new one, or when an agency created a second pixel. Do not delete either yet.

  1. Open Events Manager and compare activity for each pixel.
  2. The one receiving recent purchases is live.
  3. Note both IDs and where each is installed.
  4. Remove the code of the unused pixel from your site, and keep the live one.

Two pixels on one page can double count events, which skews results.

What is the most common mistake?

Copying the ID of the wrong asset. Meta also shows ad account IDs and business IDs, and they look similar. The pixel ID sits in Events Manager under Data sources, not in Ad account settings. If a tool rejects the ID, check you did not copy the ad account number.

What do I do with the ID?

Use it where a tool asks for it: a store integration, a tag manager, the Conversions API and any reporting tool that reads pixel data. Our answer on setting up the Conversions API explains why server events must use the same ID as the browser pixel.

Where Madgicx fits

Madgicx uses the same pixel to send server-side events. Madgicx Cloud Tracking sends conversions to Meta from your server, so Meta sees and attributes more of them under your existing pixel. The ID is the link between the two, and you choose what to connect.

FAQ

Is the pixel ID the same as the ad account ID?

No, they are different numbers. The pixel ID is in Events Manager, and the ad account ID is in your ad account settings.

Is the pixel ID private?

It is not secret, since it sits in your page code for anyone to read. Treat the access token for server events as private instead.

Can I find the pixel ID without logging into Facebook?

Yes, view your site's page source and search for the init line, or use the Pixel Helper on your site.

Is a pixel ID the same as a dataset ID?

In Meta's newer interface the pixel appears as a dataset, and the number is the same. Use the one shown under Data sources.

What does the pixel ID look like?

It is a long number. Do not type it by hand when you can copy it, because one wrong digit sends your data nowhere.
